Learn About LASIK
LASIK, is the most accepted form of laser vision correction. LASIK can treat both nearsightedness and farsightedness with or without astigmatism.

What Vision Solution Will Work For Me?
Learn about different procedures that could work in solving your vision problem.
Keratoconus
While the cause of Keratoconus unknown, the condition itself is a deterioration of the cornea resulting in gradual bulging from the normal round shape to a cone shape. The bulging results in decreased visual acuity. Most frequently, it is discovered during adolescence.
The earliest symptom is subtle blurring of vision that is not correctable with glasses. Vision is generally correctable to 20/20 with gas-permeable contact lenses. Keratoconus is more common in contact lens wearers and people with nearsighted eyes. Some researchers believe that allergies may also play a role.
Keratoconus can usually be diagnosed with slit-lamp examination of the cornea. Early cases may require corneal topography, a test that involves making a stereo image that gives a topographic map of the curvature of the cornea.
When Keratoconus is advanced, the cornea may be thinner in areas. This can be measured with a painless test called pachymetry.
Contact lenses are the primary treatment for most patients with Keratoconus. Severe cases may require corneal transplantation. Our surgeons can also use Intacs as a solution for this condition. Where corneal transplantation is needed, results are usually good after a long recovery period.
Intacs
Keratoconus is the condition in which the normal round shape of the eye becomes cone shaped. Intacs corneal implants can provide a solution for this condition. Intacs are small, micro-thin corneal implants that are inserted into your cornea and ‘push out’ the sides of your cornea, flattening the shape of your eye enough to be round again.

Intacs corneal implants reshape the curvature of your cornea from within, to correct mild nearsightedness. Unlike laser surgery, no corneal tissue is removed from the central optical zone of your cornea. Intacs corneal implants change the curvature of your eye by adding ultra-thin ring segments, rather than removing tissue. A laser may be used to create the channels in which the surgeon will insert the implants.
Once Intacs have been inserted they are no more visible than contact lenses and there is sensation of ‘wearing them’. No maintenance is required.
The total procedure takes about 15 minutes. You will receive an oral sedative and numbing eye drops. After the procedure, you will need someone to drive you home. Some patients report seeing better after the first day, some need a couple days of rest to maximize healing time.
