Learn About LASIK
LASIK, is the most accepted form of laser vision correction. LASIK can treat both nearsightedness and farsightedness with or without astigmatism.

Acrysof ReStor Lens
What is it?
The AcrySof ReSTOR Apodized Diffractive Intra-Ocular Lens (IOL) is a permanent artificial lens that is convex on both sides and made of a soft acrylic material.
The AcrySof family of IOLs are made of the first foldable material developed exclusively for use in the eye. More than 21 million AcrySof lenses have been implanted, and it is the most commonly used IOL in the world. Alcon Labs has incorporated the most advanced apodized refractive technology in the ReSTOR lens to provide a multi-focal lens that offers freedom from glasses for your everyday life!
How does it work?
The AcrySof ReSTOR IOL replaces the natural lens. It incorporates a highly advanced, proprietary and patented optic design using apodization, diffraction, and refraction technologies. The apodized diffractive optic design gives it the ability to focus light correctly on the retina for images at various distances without mechanical movement of the lens. Instead, it uses a precise reduction in microscopic step heights on the lens, which direct light to different focal points across the visual spectrum, providing a full range of vision. These steps are smaller than the diameter of a red blood cell. This amazing technology provides the correct amount of light to the retina whether the source of light is bright or dim.
Diffraction: Divides incoming light into two distinct focal points on the retina that provides very sharp distance and close up vision.
Apodization: Technology that creates a smooth transition of light between distance and close up focal points that provides a quality range of vision. The result is ability to focus on items at distance, intermediate, and near.
Apodized diffractive optics in the ReSTOR lens are designed to improve image quality while minimizing visual disturbances, such as glare and ghosting. The result is an increased range of quality vision that delivers a high likelihood of freedom from glasses or contact lenses.
When is it used?
The AcrySof ReSTOR IOL is used in adult patients who desire near, intermediate and distance vision with increased independence from glasses. It is for patients with or without cataracts, and for patients with or without presbyopia, although the majority of patients choosing the REAL Vision procedure using the ReSTOR lens will be diagnosed with a distance refractive error, as well as presbyopia.
What will it accomplish?
The AcrySof ReSTOR IOL has been shown in a clinical study to provide very good near and distance vision, as well as good intermediate vision with signif icantly increased independence from glasses or contacts.
What is the surgical procedure?
ReSTOR is implanted in the eye to restore vision after the natural lens is removed because of cataract with or without presbyopia. It can also be implanted as an 'off-label' refractive procedure to restore accommodation in a non-cataract patient.
After the
natural lens is removed, the ReSTOR lens is folded and inserted into the eye through a tiny incision smaller than the diameter of the lens. After insertion, the lens gently unfolds to restore vision. The supporting arms of the lens called haptics, maintain proper positioning within the eye.
The procedure is accomplished in a surgery center specifically designed for cataract and other corneal surgical procedures with a professional staff and the latest surgical equipment.
Clinical Results
The FDA-approved AcrySof ReSTOR IOL is a breakthrough in intraocular lens technology that greatly reduces dependence on reading glasses or bifocals.
80% of bilaterally implanted patients reported that they never needed lenses of any kind to see clearly at any distance!
97% reported being able to drive, play sports, and read a book, newspaper, or magazine without reading glasses.
94% said that they were so satisfied that they would definitely have the ReSTOR lens implanted again.
In addition, the quality of vision compared to wearing bifocals and/or trifocals is significantly improved. You'll have a full range of vision, without having to tilt your head to find that portion of your glasses that allows you to focus.
Everyone's focusing ability is different. Most people will be able to see clearly at distance, have very good reading vision and good middle vision without glasses. Some people may be more comfortable with additional correction at night or in dim light.
Your best outcome is our primary goal!
At Buckley Chang Eye Institute we are completely confident in the quality and efficacy of the ReSTOR lens. The REAL Vision Plan is an "all-inclusive" plan that includes Lasik to enhance your visual outcome. This insures your best possible near and distance vision.
